Structuring retirement planning reaps results for former ‘do it yourselfer’

Retiree Ross led a varied and interesting career – from jumping out of army helicopters, to being a ski instructor and owning his own business – he’s never done things by halves.

So when it came to selling his mum’s home and finalising her estate, he felt it wasn’t a DIY matter.

“I needed to do something with the sale proceeds so they could be distributed to family and before capital gains set in,” says Ross. “The people who sold mum’s house knew Justin Flavel and suggested he could help.”

“Soon after, Justin introduced me to Daniel Morcombe and we haven’t looked back.”

Daniel has helped Ross and wife, Carol, organise their finances according to their priorities. With retirement planning top of their list, Omnis Group worked out the income they needed and then planned how to provide it. Part of doing so also meant reducing any risk whilst using their invested funds to supply an income stream. Daniel’s strategy was to utilise maximum superannuation contributions and then held funds in lower income earner to minimise tax in retirement.

“What we’ve got invested is my army pension plus Carol’s super which gives us tax effective income throughout the year, so we’re very happy.”

Originally on hand to assist with the execution of his mother’s estate, Omnis Group is now also helping Ross and Carol with their personal tax and Financial Planning.

“We’re talking about updating our cars at some point so Daniel has set up an account for when we eventually purchase those, plus a buffer for incidentals so we’re very organised.”

“Before selling mum’s house I was still doing it mostly myself, but I couldn’t have done it as well without Omnis Group,” says Ross. “I’m only interested in helping my family and Omnis Group have made it easy for us to get good results.”

They’re also great fun,” Ross adds. “Daniel keeps in touch with us all the time and looks after things. The ladies who look after reception are also great to deal with so I’m as happy as I can be. I always recommend Omnis Group whenever anybody asks.”

Justin’s experience spans across 20 years in accounting, financial analysis and general business practice.

Although born and bred on the land, Justin’s interest was more in spreadsheets, ledgers, and finance which led him to attend university. In 1992, Justin graduated with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting and Finance. As well as qualifying as a CPA member and becoming a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, he began gaining practical experience in small and mid-tier accounting practices.

During the late 90s, Justin decided to expand his horizons and travel through Europe. It was during this time that he seized the opportunity to expand his knowledge on the workings of large organisations by taking on roles in multinational corporations.

Today, Justin’s passion is in facilitating businesses to grow and evolve. His focus is on acting in the role of business mentor to help clients develop the full potential of their businesses. He joins clients on their unique journey, and provides the tools and knowledge they need along the way to make the right decisions.

Justin’s aim for his clients parallels his own philosophy and personal journey—focusing on his own career growth and business success while maintaining balance in his life with his wife and three daughters.
